Bodie, November 2007
Week 4 of 6. In the middle of this trip I decided to check out for a few days. I took the mountain route up the eastern side of California, hwy 395, detouring this day to visit the Ghost Town of Bodie. Bodie sits at the end of 13 mile washboard dirt road in the high dessert on the edge of the Nevada border. It was at one point a thriving and wild gold rush town and had the largest population in the area, swelling to 10,000. Driving there is an end of the earth experience and it is impossible to imagine how so many people lived there for as long as they did. It is well worth the effort and rib rattling to visit and boasts of being the best-preserved ghost town in America.
